SANM560 Winter Quarter 2023

The mentors had some conflicting feedback this week. They contemplated whether the ad would be better with a warm color pallet, or with primarily white as the color pallet. So we are going to have to render out two versions. We've decided that we will at least get stills of each version rendered out, and we will be aiming for full videos of each to show and get feedback on, hopefully coming to a conclusion next week.

I got some feedback on my vellum. We need to have it be closer to the camera so that it fills up the negative space, and one of the mentors, Billy, wanted it to be "less angular". I consulted with my team and professors in order to find the best way to implement his vision. I added some more vellum sheets, and I also worked with two separate groupings of vellum, one being more pliant than the other. This combination of two different levels of flexibility allowed for larger, less angular curves. Along with this, I increased the subdivision level of the vellum.

We ran into some issues with large cache sizes, but we reduced the file size through deleting unneeded attributes. I wound up caching and retiming the simulation at 2 substeps down to 0.65 speed in order to get the vellum to be slow motion and elegant. I output a long playblast with frame numbers and let Ethan pick which frames he wanted, then I sent him the Houdini file and the cache files for those frames.
